    win xp sp2 about 5 y/o p4 2.6 ghz.

This computer has been working fine, but last week something strange happened and several components like the floppy drive and the soundcard and some others randomly went offline.

In the device manager they had yellow exlamation marks next to them, I uninstalled them all and then rebooted to which windows picked them up, reinstalled them and all was fine.

At the same time the desktop had been totally reorganised (all the icons moved to new positions) along with the screen resolution being upped.

No dramas as such cause it was easy to fix.

However today, out of the blue, the dvd/cd drive has stopped working (doesnt even show up in my computer).

So I went to device manager and there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the drive along with one next to PCI parallel port under multifunction adapters.

I unistalled both but upon reboot there is a problem with the PCI port and it cant find the file it needs.

It says intek21 PCI IO 1p board is the name of the device and when it scans for drivers it finds 2 files but when I pick either it gets to a point where it cant find itek21.inf and I cant continue.

I cant find this file on the net and I cant get it working.

It doesnt say anything about the CD drive and it still has yellow exclamation mark and doesnt work.

So are these 2 things related? The cd drive is important, I dont even know what the other thing is.

What would cause this? I recently did some thorough scans for virus with kaspersky and bit defender and came up clean (i will scan again but at the moment assume there is no virus) and also am clean of malware/adware.

So I figured maybe impending motherboard failure?

the DVD/CD drive is a LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA 4020B

Any ideas to help would be appreciated.
