    Hi
i rescently upgraded my motherboard, ram and CPU. i started palying shortly after that, and after a while my screen just goes black and the whole system restarts. i changed my Nvidia 6600gt to a 8600gt but the problem remained, and i even reinstalled XP. but no change, it never crasches unless i do something graphic related, and it can't be the GFX cars nor the power supply since it's a 520 watt ( the GPU requires 350 at least)

Anyone know what this is and how i may fix it? it's really frustrating not being able to play on your brand new system.

    Please help

Might help to know what type of motherboard, CPU, etc. you are using. Knowing your hardware helps folks here troubleshoot your problem.

Just off the top of my head here are a few things to check -- It certainly seems graphic related, and since neither card fixes the problem you can rule them out (for now).

How about your motherboard drivers? Do you have the most up-to-date drivers for your graphics system?

Double check the heatsink on your CPU and make sure it is seated properly; also make sure the CPU fan is plugged in and working. I once had a computer that would randomly restart during games, and it turned out the CPU was overheating. Replacing the thermal grease and re-seating the heatsink cleared it up.

Have you tried switching out your RAM? Problems with bad RAM can cause a host of problems.

Post back with your hardware specs.

Okey, so my motherboard is a MSI P4M900M2-L i checked the processor and it's rightfully plugged in, the cpu cooling is alright, 20 degrees while playing, and 11-12 idle.

the Ram is 2x 512 ddr2 corsair and it is also pluged in right.
motherboard drivers are also freshly new, and that goes for all my parts.
i ran 3dmark with no trouble and no restarts. i guess something triggers it

it's indeed extremly random, i tested a variety of games, and during some ones, like spiderman 3 the game, nothing happens. but when running stalker or oblivion i'm not safe even is i'm running low graphics...

Hmmm . . . sure sounds like a heat or RAM issue to me still. I looked on the MSI site at your board specs, and the 6600gt card looks like it is compatable with the board. I didn't see anything else in the specs that gave me any ideas, though.

The most common causes for your issue are overheating, RAM problems, or an inadequate or failing power supply. There are a million other odd glitches that could cause the same symptoms, no doubt . . . but these are not as common.

Did you (or are you able to) switch out your RAM? Or try each module in each slot, one at a time? This does take a while to run through, I know - but I've had my share of brand-new 'dead' RAM modules.

Try running the computer with the side panel off, and with a house fan blowing into the case - this may help to weed out heat as an issue.

First, though, go into "Control Panel" - "System" - "Advanced" - "Start Up and Recovery" - "Settings", and un-check "Automatically Restart." This might force Windows to report an error on the screen, and give you (and us) more of an idea what you are dealing with.

I hope you find some of this usefull!

Ok, so i tred unchecking that automatic reboot thingy. ran a couple of games, and after a while it did the excact same thing. and i got no blue screen with a error code. what now? i eeven tried that thing with a big fan blowing into the side panel. no change.

nwo trying even newver drivers. it struck me that new games on old drivers may be the culprit also, right?confused

I still think trying the RAM individually is wise.

Yeah, installing newer drivers is wise. Install the newest drivers for your motherboard and the video card you are using . . . below is a link to a pretty good site on how to properly install and tweak the nVidia Forceware software:

    http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_1.html

In fact, that whole site is a good resource for various tweaks (OS, BIOS, etc.). I suggest you take a look at it. There are even listings for game tweaks and patches, etc.

Past that point I am at a loss.

I meant to suggest in my first post you may want to shift this issue to the hardware forum. I think more people will see it there, who perhaps have more experience with this kind of issue then I do.

    Good luck. :)
