Hi guys i hope someone can help with this. I built myself a pc a few months ago and ever since i have had it working i have been exoperiencing random restarts esopecially when the pc is just running overnight downloading files. I sometimes get a blue screen saying

    driver_not_less_or_equal

however normally the pc just reboots on its own and then says that the system has recovered from a serious error and gives me the following error log:

    C:\WINDOWS\minidump\mini022305-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\JONATH~1\LOCALS~1\temp\WER.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

my system specs are as below:

    AMD Sempron 3000+
128mb NVidia FX 5900XT gfx card
    512mb DDR RAM
    Soltek SL-KT600-C1L Motherboard
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1
    350W Power supply

(however i have run the pc lately with no soundcard to see if that was the issue and it appears not to be as it does it even without the soundcard)

hope someone can help because i am at my wits end with this problem :(....

would the minidump file that has been created be able to tell me what the problems was? If so how would i go about understanding what the minidump file says, im really confused......

The driver_not_less_or_equal error is a nightmare to workout whats causing the problem, steps I would take are......

    1. Install Motherboard Chipset Drivers
    2. Update any and ALL MS updates/service packs
    3. Update as many hardware devices as possible to latest drivers... eg. GFX card, Network Card, Sound Card etc

Well basically i thought the problem would be drivers so i formatted the PC and put windows xp back on. I removed my soundcard, modem etc so i was left with my motherboard, RAM, processor, and gfx card and nothing else. I put the latest nvidia drivers on the pc and did not install any other drivers for anything so i have a fresh install of windows xp service pack 1 and nvidia drivers thats it. and after 24 hours i get a restart but this time with no error message at all. I am at my wits end basically if it is drivers then wtf?!
I have no drivers on the pc apart from gfx ones and surely it cannot be the latest nvidia drivers (btw i have tried older nvidia drivers and still got the same problem) so i give up i have no idea, surely this means it must be hardware or bios settings doesnt it?

Just looking over at the specs on that Mobo and which CPUs it supports the Sempron 3000+ is not listed the 2800+ is the last one a Bios update supported, so dont know if thats going to be a problem.

Whats the temps of your CPU?

and the Chipset Drivers are very important to help or keep a system running as they help device drivers/hardware to be easily recognised, your chipset is a VIA, follow this page and pick your OS etc http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2#4in1 to gain the Chipset Drivers ... you need the VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers as they support the KT600 chipset

hi thanks for the reply. Well i have had this problem when running the latest via chipset drivers and i have also tested without mobo drivers and it still does it so i am pretty much sure it is not that...

but i am very interested in what you noticed about the maximum processor supported by my mobo. I have looked as well and it does not say 3000+ so i wonder if this could be the cause. The thing is that i never get crashes when playing games or surfing the web it is always when i have left the pc on for a few hours without doing anything on it. Almost every time it is when the pc is downloading files overnight but it is not my modem drivers becasue it did it with my 56k and my current broadband modem.

My cpu temps are normally around 48 degrees when idle and about 52-55 (depending upon room temperature) when playing powerful games such as half life 2. However the restarts as i said are when the cpu is at under 50 so i dont think it is a temp issue really.....

I think it may be the processor not being suitable for the board (even though the shop told me it was fine) but would that really cause a huge problem? i will be very angry at the shop i got this from if this turns out to be the case this has given me months of grief!
