    Hello,

Not last night, but the night before, my computer started just shutting down randomly. Sometimes every ten minutes, sometimes every 1/2 hour, sometimes every 5 secs, etc.

I did not install anything recently. Prior to shutting down, I noticed MSE shuts down altogether or, its security features get disabled. This also happens with Winpatrol and with Spywaregaurd. They've always run together without any problems.

I went to the MS site and did all my updates today, the minute I was able to stay logged onto the computer long enough. (A kaboodle of security patches and the malicious software removal tool.) I was also ranable to run the MSE scanner earlier in the day and it found nothing.

After I ran WinUtilities reg cleaner earlier tonight, I was able to stay on for about an hour without shutting down but, I really don't know if it had anything to do with the reg clean.

I also checked the error logs in sys admin this aft and found the following:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Service Control Manager
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 7026
    Date: 4/27/2011
    Time: 12:03:55 AM
    User: N/A
    Computer: FFB-83SFVV3KH7S
    Description:
The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
    AFD
    Fips
    intelppm
    IPSec
    MpFilter
    MRxSmb
    NetBIOS
    NetBT
    RasAcd
    Rdbss
    SASDIFSV
    SASKUTIL
    Tcpip

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I deleted the SASKUTIL dll as there were several error messages about it just prior to this one. I'd also found it disabled in the device manager.

I don't know, but this feels like a driver problem. I haven't been able yet to run a full scan this evening/night with any of the malware products before shutting down but, I'll try again.

The computer shuts down even in safe mode.

Just in case, attached is Winpatrol's hijack log (had to try to capture it around 5 or 6 times before shutting down)

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

99% of shutdowns are caused by heat. You need to check if fans are spinning (case, graphics card and power supply).

If all the fans are working fine, it is likely a power supply issue.

As power supplies age, their total available output drops (similar to a car battery). If the existing power supply is on the edge, the heat it generates during operation (even if the fan is working) can cause it to shut down.

On a desktop (tower) PC, modular connectors are used (it's practically impossible to hook things up wrong). If you replace the power supply, get one at least equal to (or greater than) the wattage marked on the old one. It's worth the few extra bucks to buy a quality brand such as Antec, Corsair or ThermalTake.

On a notebook, check the battery indicator. If plugged in, do the AC Power and/or charging icons show? For a notebook PC, don't blow big bucks on a manufacturer/model specific power supply. Antec and SIIG both offer quality universal replacements in the $35-$50 price range.

    Hope this helps. :)
