Hello people, I hope someone can help me with my problem.

My computer is having an issue recognizing my AGP video card sometimes. It seems random, sometimes when I restart my computer everything goes fine, but other times it will not recognized the video card. The card's fan turns on and all, but the screen remains black and displays the message about the video port being connected.

When that happens I have to open the case up and reseat the card to get the computer to recognize it. Sometimes it takes me an hour of reseating it before it finally works. My question is this: is it the video card or the AGP port? Before this all started to happen, the fan on my video card dried up and I had to open it up and put some oil & graphite powder into it to get it to work, so I'm not sure if I'm to blame for the random mishaps now.

I do not have a spare AGP card or PCI card for that matter to test. Also, the onboard video works fine whenever tested.

Thanks in advance for any advice or knowledge!

    Firstly welcome to MG. :)

Have you checked to see if the AGP card contacts are clean and that there is no gunk in the AGP port?
