Good news - my daughter called me for help on a ransomware issue. Bad news is she called me after she had given control (and money) to the perpetrators.

Two laptop computers have been compromised; one is an old Sony VAIO and the other is a Macbook. Both are powered off and WiFi is disabled.

Took steps to deal with all potential account and credit card issues; looking for what steps to take to deal with all the malware that is bound to be on the computers now so we don't propagate the problem.

I'm aware of the malware guidance you have in the forum, so just want to make sure we take the right actions in the right order since she gave control to the hackers in addition to getting infected with the ransomware through careless browsing.

    Thank you,
    QB

Is it the kind of ransomware that encrypts files? Did you check to see if files were encrypted? If it is, there are no real fixes other than format and reinstall. If not encrypted then you should follow our normal cleaning process in the below:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

Thanks for getting back to me. I didn't run across any encrypted files, so I read through the info at the link. The Macbook is the primary concern. She gave control of her computer to the ransomware outfit while on her iPhone also (which is linked to her Macbook). I'm concerned they could have put malware on the Mac and her phone. Are there separate instructions for Mac? The OS directions at the bottom were all for Windows; did I miss the Mac instructions?

    Thank you,
    QB

    You're welcome.
No. There aren't any. Sorry but this forum is for Windows based PCs.
