Well, my route to work involves a 2 lane street that drops from 35mph to 25mph and then back up to 30mph. I drive more or less the speed limit, maybe 3mph over it. I have never had a speeding problem with 'the man'.

But what is the point of riding my arse? Do you really believe some unknown law of physics will activate and make me speed up? Do you all see the air critters? I do almost every day. And they will mess up your car if you hit them! Sometimes I just have to do a brake check on the tailgaters I mean stop abruptly to avoid the air dog...

Heck, I drive a '93 Nissan pickup. I got insurance, do you? I need a new ride, or money to fix my ride up. So ride my arse on the road at your own risk.

you know i was driving back to our shop today in my friends 91 accord (it can do 100mph easy) and i had a brand new Trailblazer tailgating me. i live out in the country so i will slow down to make them pass but this guy would just get closer and closer and not pass so i watched him for afew miles and i seen he was all over the road he would go all the way to the other side of the road and about go off thin jurk the car back into our lane at one point he about became a part of a 18-wheelers grill. i hope he did not hurt anyone today. i let the cops knows but they did nothing.

If you got any more rants like this post them because i like these kind ;)

It pisses me off people hogging the overtaking lane so you can't pass! They think that because they're doing the speed limit they've got a right to block everyone else in.

It's times like this that I wish I was driving a tank and could just run right over the top of them.:major

Ahh ignore Adrynalyne he just likes to stir the pot, if we say white sure as God made little green apples, Adrynalyne with a smirk on his face will say it's blackLOL

My most hated "Tailgaters" are the ones who travel twice the speed limit to catch up to you, then proceed to sit on your tail for the next fifty miles. That's when I go into my "Senile Old Fart" profile (Not a stretch for me, believe me), I drive really slow and weave, then stick my hand out and signal the dope to pass and accelerate like hell, slow or fast the dope will drive as if glued to my bumper.

One day when I had plenty of time, I had one of these jerks pull in behind me and stay stuck to my bumper for about twenty miles. I pulled over and let him pass, even though we had gone through about thirty passing areas but no he wouldn't pass. Then I proceeded to follow the character right up to his driveway, yep just like he did to me right on his bumper. Well he wouldn't get out of his car, so I rolled down the window and honked the horn and said "Have a great day"...................Wonder if he ever did that againLOL

I don't like it when I'm in the slow lane, doing the speed limit, and someone is riding my a$$. I'm in the slow lane because I know I'm going slower than a lot of the other traffic. If you want to go faster, get your butt over to your left and pass me.

What I also don't like however, is the people who do the speed limit (or slower) in the left lane and won't get out of your way and move into the slow lane when they see you coming up on them. I mean, they could have a wide open opportunity to move over, but they don't take it. Instead, I have apply my breaks and slow down. If I can't find an opening to the right of me to pass the guy holding up traffic, I usually put on my lights and ride to the left of them. Usually they get the hint to speed up or move over, but some people just refuse, and within minutes, there is a hundred angry drivers behind them. In a lot of cases I've seen, where accidents have happened, it was not because a driver was going ten over the limit. They happened because the driver was trying to get around a joy rider in the lift lane, where they had to slow down suddenly and make quick moves through traffic. I love to drive, but people need to use common sense because I'm starting to get sick of it.

My own tale. I was driving home with my wife one night and was following a car, but keeping my distance, so as to not blind him. My dims were on, not my brights. It just so happened my dims were most excellent. I felt bad for the guy though, because despite me keeping my distance, he kept tapping his breaks, indicating for me to turn off the brights, that I wasn't using. So I kept backing off, keeping a large distance. Well, the guy slows down and pulls over a bit, an indication to me that he wanted me to pass. So I speed up and pass, and as soona s I get in front of him, the dude turns his brights on!

Wrong answer. Oh man, wrong answer. I stomp on the breaks, pull over, put the car in neutral and drop the parking break. The guy behind me was freaked all to hell. I think he thought I was going to stomp him into a mud puddle (of which I did have it in mind).

He wouldnt pass me. I was pulled over stopped, and he did too. He wouldnt get out of his car, wouldnt speed up, wouldnt pass, nothing.

    Fine.

I got back on the road and went home.

I watched him in my rearview. He stayed at least a quarter mile back the entire time thereafter. I bet he never did it to anyone ever again.

Moral of this story? Purposely blast me with your brights, and I will put knots on your head.

    I fully agree.

here in belgium it is the national passtime(tailgaiting) i personally hate it and have on a number of occasions waited for a stop light and got out of the car to ask if they needed a longer tow rope, as i am 6'2 and 225 it usually works:D

visitors (read tourists) are a real problem here. our roads are downright dangerous. if you spin off, you are not hitting 'land'...you are hitting lava rock. generally speaking the cars simply crumple into it and not many people survive auto crashes here. all along the highways (if you can call them that) there piles of flowers here and there in memory of those that came off the road. its soo sad. tailgating is not so much a problem as impatience. speed kills. rain washes across roads with enough force to take you with it. wild pigs, donkeys and goats are all shadowy black and appear suddenly in the night. most of our roads are unlit, winding, steep, and potholed. (the constant shifting of the land breaks the surface as fast as it can be repaired). one would think that the sight of all those makeshift memorials would register with drivers but not. people who live here drive carefully. people who visit think this is because 'island life is slower' and get fooled by the fact that there is little traffic and few cops. i have myself and survived only by gods grace and with permanent damage. and i was only doing about 35mph. my car was washed off the road. fortunately there was a new crash barrier on the cliff side. unfortunately my car has bounced off of that back into the mountain side and simply concertinaed into it.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this. In my opinion, the person tailgating is the problem. What if a child or dog is in the road and I have to stop suddenly? When the tailgater slams into me, is that my fault? Personally, I like to keep enough room between me and the car in front of me so I can stop without hitting them if something unusual happens. I call that driving.

In my opinion, use some common sense when driving. Just my .02

I tend to agree with Halo though. The correct thing to do is slow down and force their hand--make them pass or change lanes.

The first punk *** to do that to me will have me ramming my fist down their throat. Not everyone intentionally tailgates, and for someone to put my life, or the lives of my passengers in danger by being an :*** because I annoyed them is unacceptable.

Attemtping to cause an accident at any time is unacceptable. Being the survivor of three major car accidents (one of which there was a fatality), maybe I have a different outlook on things.

Dang, I guess we have to agree to disagree also! The road I am talking about is a 2 lane road, with no shoulder, what do I do? And when I say tailgater, I mean someone 5' off my bumper. They can pass me, I am not stopping them. Again, who is driving the worst? I am driving a few miles over the speed limit, they are endangering me! What if I have a blowout, or something unusual is in the road that I have to stop for?

As far as the brakecheck, I see your point. Not the smartest thing to do. Keep some distance from the car in front of you. You never know what is around the next corner.

I think the tailgater is attempting to cause an accident by how they are driving.

    I was commenting on brakechecks.

If an accident is to happen, it will. No need to cause it, persay.

As for tailgaters, Ive done the whole two lane road thing. I've slowed down to 5mph. They pass. Dont get me wrong, I hate em too, but you gotta choose the safest way to handle it. Brakechecks will never be the way ;)

hehe, I took a tailgater to court.. I used to leave me camera's on my car (I used to do a lot of back road racing) and the guy was tailgating me... I slammed on my breaks, got a nice 1 second shot of his license plate number before he rammed the back of my car... I claimed I saw a child on the road and I got off with 2 grand to fix up my bumper, buy a new camera for the back, AND I even got to keep $500 from it so I bought a G25 steering wheel and LFS S2 and a full tank of gas or two :)

moral of the story, don't tailgate the little white Miata I'm in a little arse car and get intimidated by jeeps tailgating me

See, I have a problem with this. Was the person tailgating you an ***? Sure... But that doesn't mean you should deliberately cause an accident to get back at them. What if the driver had a kid in the car? Could you live with yourself knowing that you are the reason their child was injured, or killed? Slow down, pull over, change lanes, do something to allow them to pass. But, never, ever, purposely cause a collision to get back at them, or teach them a lesson.

I just slow down, sometimes they get the hint and back off. If not, I slow down more (a) for safety's sake, and (b) just to tick them off even more, if they are giving me bad attitude.

it's called I have a convertable and its VERY easy to look behind me... and as I stated I was already doing 10 over, if he had a kid in the very baack (illegal where I am) and wants to do like 15-20 over, then he already is putting his kid in more danger then what I would have put him in. it's not like he hit me at full speed when I was at a dead stop, cause the it wouldn't be a tailgater... he was doing about 35 when I was doing 20 when breaking ( slowed down from about 40)...

  36. DavidGP

I agree with you on the tailgaters and if you have to brake sudernly but you were talking about intentionally brake testing others. On the opposite side of the argument is if you braketest someone and cause them to swerve and kill a mother and child, who is at fault? both of you him for tailgating and you for causing an un-necassary accident.

The UK is bad for tailgating, mainly on highways as you call them and I think tailgating shoud be a procecutable offence with high penalties but still setting out to cause an accident in a pre-meditated way is also a crime IMO.

I just do not understand why it is so in fashion to be agressive when driving, it's no surpise that insurance is so high.

deaths here in a car accident is normally the under 25s in built up areas with low speed limits, the strange thing is the police do not seem to care about prevention only in the aftermath.confused

No matter who's at fault you should always do everything you can to avoid an accident. Core2Conroe that is why young people's insurance is high, you not only caused the accident but perjured yourself. I foresee worse in your future being you see nothing wrong with what you did and then brag about it. Slowing is one thing (which is what I do also given no other choice). Actually there's people who do that for a living, they end up in prison.

Yes, there is never any excuse or amount of frustration that could justify intentionally causing a road accident.

Also a sore point in my life as I've lost a mother and had a permanently disabled wife due to separate, completely avoidable accidents.

I don't see how anyone of sound mind would want to cause a crash, just to prove some kind of pointless point.
