    Hey folks,

Back in January of 2016 I bought a Lenovo Y700 series ideapad laptop. About two weeks ago the computer completely died and after a trip to the computer shop I am told that the mother board is gone.

I am pretty frustrated because the warranty ended this past March, but I put decent money into buying a computer that I hoped would last me for years. Definitely expected more out of it than this.

How long should I expect to get out of the motherboard? Do I have a right to be a little miffed at Lenovo that I didn't get more life out of this?

I am in the process of contacting Lenovo to see if they can / will do anything at all for me. It seems unlikely but I have nothing to lose at this point.

Seems to be a common complaint. Replacing the motherboard would probably not be cost effective. Good luck with Lenovo.

Lenovo has grown in such capacity, that maybe a "K Car" of sorts pulled a tidy stipend/ Or perhaps they lost the bet and deducted a loss.

IBM had a great idea IMHO. Personally I really appreciate a ThinkPad for it's solid interface.

That being said, sometimes everyone buys a dud...

Expectations often don't match reality. But the fact is, the vast majority of electronics last longer than their usefulness. That is, they are retired and/or replaced by something newer/better/shinier before they actually die.

Of course, until Man can create perfection 100% of the time, there will always be premature failures.

Lenovo is actually the world's largest computer maker. And for the most part, they make good stuff. I just don't trust them and won't buy their products because they have a long standing history of putting malware and spyware on their computers - but that's for a different discussion.

Sure you have a right to be miffed. I agree with your plan to contact Lenovo tech support. Be sure to express (in a friendly but firm manner) your displeasure and see if they will work with you.

    Keep us posted.

Update: Spoke to Lenovo a couple of different times. I didn't find them customer service to be that great. As expected, they can't / won't do anything to replace or repair the computer. I guess I am going to be without a computer for a while until I can afford another one. I think I will be staying away from Lenovo after this experience.
