RAR files ?

Hi,
just been given a usb flash with a file on that i cant open?

Its in RAR what !!! is there a free program that i can use to open the said file
dont really want to ask for it to be made into a "normal" file from the person who asked me to read it, thanks...................

 

Rars are compressed files like ZIP but a different compression method.

Winrar has a 40 day trial and will work afterwards but gives a donation popup which can just be closed and the program works normally.

TugZip works on rars as well and is free.

 

.RAR files are more-or-less the same as .ZIP files. They are compressed archive files. You can use the free (and excellent) TUGZip. Install it as usual by simply clicking Next all the way through. On the final install screen, there's a check box to "Launch TUGZip now". Go ahead and launch it. Again, click Next all the way through until you see the final window with a Finish button, and a column on the left side of that window with a list of different archive formats. Click the Select All button under that column and click Finish. Then an Explorer-like window will open. Close it. Now you can right click on any ZIP file, RAR file, etc and extract it. I usually use the 2nd green arrow which says "Extract to:.\filename". You'll end up with a folder in the same directory and the same name as the original file, but it will be unzipped and fully use-able....

That's OK. I suggested TugZip as a nod to you! I use WinRar but know TugZip is your recommended choice (and it doesn't have the registration nag screen).
