RCA to VGA Converter

I wanted to display a composite (RCA Video only - yellow) video device on a VGA monitor. I was skulking around online and saw a few videos of people hooking up stuff using devices like the attached pic. I bought one on ebay which looks identical right down to the venting holes, but was advertised as VGA to RCA, and didn't mention anything about using it the other way around. It works alright when hooking a VGA device (like a laptop) to a TV, but I can't get it to work the other way (RCA to a VGA monitor). Has anybody ever messed around with one of these things? I've seen them working in YouTube videos, but I'm not sure if there are different converters sold using a generic enclosure. Thanks.

 

Unfortunately, the device you have is a one-way converter. Monoprice.com has a two-way converter for $32. It's the only place I found such an item after Googling "2-way RCA to VGA/VGA to RCA Converter". There are a number of tabs on the product page where you can check out the specs, knowledge base and customer reviews.

 

exactly you got the reverse of what you needed. They are not interchangeable. The other poster is correct with that device. I just bought 2, to hook up some TV Games to a LCD, but the images are not that great. I don't know if it is the device, or the fact that TV was a lower resolution.

 

Yeah that's kind of what I figured, but I was hoping I was wrong. Oh well, it was only ten bucks anyway....
