RE: Cannot Install

Hello. Can not install a Windows Update (Fails!): Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 6D or 41D . If I attempt to try to install and then reboot/restart the system and attempt again to install, I will get one or the other Error Details Code (either Code 6D or Code 41D).

I have tried on several occasions to fix this issue and have had an unsuccessful installation on my Windows 7 Professional in each instance. I do not know what is causing the install failure or even how to fix this issue.

I have tried downloading the 32-Bit version (x86) of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) as an EXE file form Microsoft website and installing it separately in Safe Mode to see if I could get this service pack 3 installed. Unfortunately, I can not get it installed either in Safe Mode after a few attempts.

While in Safe Mode, I can get the program to run, but it details more clearly what is going on. This is over my head. I am able to get a Summary sheet in a TXT file. I have pasted both these sheets here (below). Maybe this can help you find my issue.

I'm not at all attempting to know what exactly is going on, but I do know that you will have problems in safe mode, as Windows installer service doesn't run in safe mode, so that option might be out of the question.
Are you running a 64-bit version of windows? do you have all .net versions, as I think they are required (3.5 at least? http://www.microsoft.com/net/ )

lastly, can you try running the installer in compatibility mode? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

Thank you Halo! I see what you mean. Just a miss-placed Windows Update trying to install when I don't have any application on my system to use it for, so it cannot install. Interesting! I thought it was a separate installation "independent of any applicable applcations on my system. I see it is not. I see this particular program needs something to cling to in order to install. Different.
