    Hi Guys,
My Sony CD-R/RW Drive has been a disappointment since I bought it (about 2yrs ago). It's gotten to the point, where I'm ready to trash it. I've noticed a bunch of DVD-RW Drives available for only $55-75. Then I see others w/identical specs, for $150 & up.
Are the lower priced units worth a Crud? Samsung offers an apparantly nice unit for $58. It comes w/a fair amount of software, too. Software that'd probably straighten out this POS Sony, to boot.
Has anyone tried these yet? Thanks for the feedback.
    Kenny.
P.S.: I managed to P/U some tenascious Malware the other day. I thought of those here, who've helped me in the past :). Long story_short, I was able to clear it MYSELF, in about 20 minutes. Thanks for that too;)!

I have used Sony, HP, Samsung, TDK, Plextor, and Lite-On.

my recommendations are Lite-On and Plextor, as I have found them to be the most reliable, true-performing and rock solid drives out there.

NEC is supposed to make great drives as well--but I'd put my mouth behind Lite-On from personal experience.

i currently have this drive http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-106-961&depa=0
    and its great

Before you give up on your drive, ever looked for new firmware? What problems are you having?

I have a few NECs and they have been good to me so far.

i put an NEC in a pc i built for a friend and I had to RMA it as it wouldn't read any disk. replaced it with a Lite-On and it was perfect right out fo the box. the NEC was prob just a fluke though.

I will be putting a Lite-On dvd-rw in my pc soon.
