Re-Format

I need help!! I told my wife to save all her family pictures on the D drive of our partioned hard drive. Well she didn't. I re-formated and re-installed Windows on that C drive and now we're looking for a way to retrieve those lost images. Is there a way??

 

You may have wrote over this data again, but some of it may be recoverable. My advice is DO NOT DEFRAGMENT, dont do anything!

I cant advise which one to use as i have not used any of them. It may be a long process, but it sounds like these pictures are important so it may be neccassary.

good advice from wayne82, every write action reduces the chances of getting those pics back, if when you reinstalled windows you choose the slow option for formating it then dont bother because they will be gone now, and no software can recover them, some companies can recover them but that costs thousands, hopefully you choose the fast option, that doesnt completely overwrite the entire disk so it may be recoverable with the post from wayne82, hope that helps, :major i-CONICA :major

 

Since you have taken the earlier precaution to create a d drive, I would reload and run Windows from that and then use an UNFORMATTER from Waynes excellent list on your C drive. He is right don't disturb it any more.

Lots of good advice, one more I found was knoppix live - afree download that you can burn to cd, and run from dvd drive, I have tried it, and you can read the hard drive from it, - if your pictures are still there, it can copy them over.
