Hello. I have a question and I SERIOUSLY need your help with OneNote 2007.

    My issue:

I was meaning to save an OneNote 2007 page within a section of a notebook to a Word doc (.docx) file and when I did I accidently saved it as an .one file and it saved on my desktop as a section of a notebook as well. I know better than this and I do it correctly most other times, but this time I must of been daydreaming during the save as process and clicking the wrong bullets and download menu choices. :) Believing that I have not lost the file since it is saved on my desktop as an .one file; when I click to open this .one file on my desktop, it opens in OneNote and it shows in OneNote's "Open Sections" as a section.

The problem: In this section there are NO pages of my data like I had before I wrongly saved it. It only states, "This section is empty. Click here to create a new page.” How do I get my page back with all the data to where I had it before I accidently saved it??? I know the .one file on my desktop has my data since it is a 5.89 MB file size by looking at its properties. Also, I deleted that created page I wrongly converted to a .one file in OneNote and closed out of OneNote immediately after that, so any original page data that I had before I saved it is gone. I had no intention to keep that page in OneNote after it was created as a Word doc., so I instantly deleted the page in OneNote before I unknowingly created the wrong file. I know when you delete a page and close out of OneNote, it cannot be retrieved again at next runtime of OneNote. it is gone for good. All I have is this .one file on my desktop.

I know one of the sweet aspects of OneNote is that it routinely makes and keeps x number (at an x time interval) backup files within your system in a separate file location different from the main continuously saving file location. Once you get to the folder location where they are backed up: The notebook in OneNote is the folder and inside each folder, the .one file is the section (of the notebook). However, the date and time the backup file was created is just BEFORE the time I page I was trying to convert to a Word doc. so, it is not there. The backup file is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours before the time I finished creating the one page document in OneNote that I tried to convert. Awe!!!

So is there any way to bring this OneNote file (.one) back into OneNote TO SHOW AS A COMPLETE PAGE that I once had previously?

Please reply with solutions or ideas.

    Thank you!

    Greetings, montecarlo1987.

I'm not familiar with OneNote, so this may all be problematic.

Do I copy that you wish to change the file extension of the saved file? If so, open Windows Explorer, Organize, Folder and search options, View, uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types', and OK out. I'd suggest that you now make a copy of the desktop file (in case something goes wrong), and rename the extension (it'll probably bark at you) to '.doc', or whatever. After all this is done, I'd suggest going back into Explorer options and retuning to default.

Apologize if I'm on the wrong track.

Thanks Caliban for your interest and reply!

I appreciate your thoughts on this issue. Actually, it could seem that is what I want from the fact I recieved an .one file when I wanted one of the 2 Word doc file types. What happened is when I created by my sheer carelessness a OneNote file (.one). I know that OneNote files cannot be directly converted into any Word doc file becuase they are incompatible file formats. SO the only way to get the Word doc file I want is to get the OneNote file (.one) and get it back (load) into the OneNote application, then be able to create that Word doc I originally wanted. The only thing is that the OneNote file will not load properly back into the OneNote application. It comes up basically as a blank page of information, and this is NOT normal. I should be getting a page of information. In OneNote there are basically three organizational tiers: the notebook, the section, and the page. I was converting the page in OneNote originally and instead of creating a Word doc for the "page", it came as a OneNote file (.one) as a "section". Not at all what I wanted. But again, there should be no issue of the OneNote section loading back into the OneNote application and I am having this issue.

    I appreciate your help.

If any further facts or ideas from you or anyone else is appreciated!

    Thanks again!

These to statements have me confused(normal for me),
What is not there? The "creation time stamp" isn't as important(in this case) as the "last modified time stamp", although they can be and many times are the same for some files.

If that "created page" was an existing file on the drive, perhaps something like Recuva Portable or Glary Undelete may be of help.
