Re-installing Windows XP

I have been having some problems with my computer lately. I have a lot of malware and trojans on it and my display settings won't change the lowest color quality and screen resolution. I have decided to just re-install Windows XP and start over from scratch. I was wondering if someone could just let me know how to simply re-install XP because I don't want to mess anything up. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 Series, Intel Pentium 4 Processor at 2.40GHz with 512 MB. If someone could help me to simply just get started on the re-installation it would be greatly appreciated.
