My Sony system restore creates a C (15GB) and D (65 GB) partition. I have not found a way to reallocate the space from the D partition to the C partition. Can someone tell me how?

Partition Magic should do it, you want a partitioning program and your looking to "merge partitions". I am unaware of a free partitioning tool.

Some other thoughts. Please remember that modifying partitions risks a loss of data... like everything, so back up. I assume D: is the whole backup, if you lose it, without a full restore CD, you wont be able to restore, unless I am misunderstanding or you do have a complete restore CD.

I thought that this used ot be done using FDISK in DOS, but I have nto been able to get it to work. I was hoping there was something alreay inthe Win OS or somethign free, especially since I will only need it once. I will look at partition magic when I get a minute. IF you have any other suggestions I would like to hear them.

If you use WinXP it comes with a disk management tool built in. If you're on anything prior to it you would need something like Partition Magic. Using Fdisk to partition hard drives is done only at the begining of an operating system install. If perhaps you had any unused space you would be able to create another logical drive, but you can't change anything in your existing partitions using FDISK.

Yes, I am using WinXP. I found one disk managment tool that would let me delete the D partition, but I could not find out how to reallocate that space to my C partition. To insure I am using the right tool can you tell me where to find the disk management tool you mentioned AND the steps I need to take to delete D partition and reallocate space to the C partition? By the way, will this impact the data already on the C partition?
