reactivating xp after repair

Hi, I just changed my motherboard and did an xp repair. At the end of the repair I was asked if I wanted to activate windows now but I chose later. The thing is that the reactive xp icon prompt hasn't popped up yet even after shutting down several times. also the update icon (shield) isn't showing either. I thought for sure that all the updates had to be installed again after a repair. anyone have any idea what goes on here? thanks

 

Ok, the update icon finally appeared. It says Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is ready for download. I wonder what that does? Still no prompt to reactivate windows. guess I don't need to. :confused

 

Click Start > All Programs and click Windows Update. If you need to activate, Windows Update will prompt you to do it, and you can re-install your updates.....

 

Hi and thanks for the feedback dlb. XP can sure act weird sometimes after a hardware change. I finally got the updates working right. Had to reregister the wuauserv again using the cmd box. Here's the weird part, I never was prompted to reactivate windows so I thought I didn't have to. After turning the system on and off at least a dozen times finally the last time I booted up the message came up that I had exceeded the number of tries to activate XP and wanted a new product code. I called the phone number shown and after about 6 or 7 minutes everything was ok again. fortunately I had just gone through this a couple of weeks ago for a friend and it was painless. thank goodness I won't be replacing any more motherboards for a long time.
