Ready for AVG, but still have McAfee

I have McAfee but I'm ready to take the plunge and switch to AVG. I understand that I can have more than one anti-virus program in my system, but that I should run only one at a time. I see the "Disable" button in McAfee, so I know how to stop it from running. My questions are: Should I keep McAfee enabled while I download AVG? If I do, when should I disable McAfee? Do I install AVG before disabling McAfee? I sure don't want to have both of those programs running at the same time! Would somebody give me step-by-step? Thanks.

 

Yeah, I was going to say ...

You can have multiple anti-virus programs on your system ... just don't run them at the same time. But hek, AVG's great! Why have others!

I love AVG.I have Norton 2003 Pro and Mcafee 7.0 but after trying them AVG is my pick

I had this question a while back(I was using Norton). After looking for a free AV, I was disappointed in AVGs scores, so I opted for Avast) so far so good. Plus it updates very often and is pretty simple to use.

Make shure your comfortable with what you pic, and try to get as much input as possible.

 

Heres what I did.Downloaded AVG but did not install.
First I went to the Start/ControlPanel /Add/Remove and uninstalled Mcafee.
I then went to Start/Run/Find entered Macfee and after running through,I hi-lited all entries listing Macfee and pressed delete.Ignore warning,
I then went to my registry editor.clicked on Edit/Find entered Mcafee and proceeded to delete all keys related to Mcafee.
Rebootcomputer .I then proceeded to install AVG.
Been running AVG since its inception.Running Win98se
