Yeah, gotta say, now days I can't believe the kids there would go for it. I would think there'd be some kind of coup or something. LOL

15 minutes? I wouldn't even have made it through the front door.
That principal, priest, or whatever he wants to be called better catch up with the rest of the world into the 21st century.
The boy should be able to have one night of fun after going to that school for so long.

Honestly, I thought the whole premise behind the movie Footloose was made up. Guess I was wrong.

@hrlow...I'm pretty sure 99.9% of the teenage population wouldn't make it 5 minutes in that school. I'm not sure how they do it.

IMO, a school doesn't have the right to interfere with someone's rights after school hours. That's private business.

If a school kid is a minor, the parents are responsible for him/her after school, NOT the school principal. It's plain interfering with parents' responsibilities. Is the school also dictating that the kids are supposed to make their beds?? :confused

The article reminds me of being in a Catholic all girl high school in the fifties and after school hours, we would gather on the street corner where the boys from their high school would come and gather with us. The nuns would chase us girls and boys apart when they spotted us. There was a lot of chasing done by the nuns :-D But there never were any repercussions.....

Another example of do as I say, not as I do. I bet the stupid people who overreacted in this story had a ball when they were 17. All teenagers want out of life is some fun. They've got plenty of time to play at being over zealous old duffers like the school officials.
The handbook for the 84-student Christian school says rock music "is part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds." No it isn't. Old jobsworths like these officials are why the kids rebel. I wouldn't want some complete stranger telling me what I can and can't do with my life.

This is one of the 'four freedoms', a traditional Baptist belief:
    • Soul freedom: the soul is competent before God, and capable of making decisions in matters of faith without coercion or compulsion by any larger religious or civil body
Unless some old scrote decides to interfere and make someone else's life his business.
This kind of thing smacks of hypocrisy and boils my blood. Rant ended.

We had a party during school hours in 6th grade, the end off elementary school, and one girls parents came and sat with her to make sure she didn't have fun. I don't remember what religion they were. She was dressed up but that was as far as they would go I imagine. She begged to mingle a few times but they were unyielding, making her sit and watch.
I wonder how she turned out :confused

Well, that's a sad story. It's one thing when the parents send the kids to a school where no one is allowed to have fun, it's another when they are singled out. :(

@oma...funny story. Sounds like my mother and father in law. They tell the same thing. LOL

So your in-laws experienced something similar? LOL These nuns didn't allow us to remove our skirts when having gym and thus made us wear skirts over pants, until they hired a male gym teacher. Oh boy, a short time later he got rid of our skirts, only during gym though. ;)

I agree with that up to a point however.

Here in the North Central Texas area, around Dallas, some cheerleaders donned their high school cheerleader uniforms, after school hours, and took pictures outside of a store called "Condoms to Go". They were all summarily dismissed from the squad and this instance, I agree with that. Even though it was after hours and off school property, they were wearing attire that made them representatives of the school, and thus they have an image to maintain.

I know that when I went to school back in the late 80s and early 90s, if you were in extracurricular activities, and you went to a beer party, which means you are drinking underage, and you got caught, or word got back, you would be punished because you are holding a leadership type position, that being one of representation of the school.

In this instance, I don't know all the ins and outs of the Baptist school, i.e. did he sign a code of conduct and does it extend outside of school? I don't know, but you know what, if they did, then he had to expect what happened.

Yes, if they represent their school in one way or another, that's another story. So in those cases, the school may have some say.

But all the guy did was go to a dance at a party with a girl. Mega sin or what? It's hardly dragging his school through the gutter, is it?

    Oh, dear.

Am I shocked? Somehow...I think I am - or maybe just horrified. Why, oh why did I decide to read that? I mean, the title says it all....though I did love the movie. Young Kevin Bacon - his film character anyway - one of of my few celebrity crushes from times past. LOL

    Excommunication awaits them. They wish.
Or is that a purely Catholic thing?
