Real Player downloader and down load managers

I have a fairly fast pc with win 7 32 bit and I like to download tv shows and watch them. I am on a daily limit of 450mb daily so my free time is at 2:00am to 7:00am. Real player won't work anymore and I have deleted it several times, cleaned the registry and reinstalled, it doesn't work. I thought I could get a downloader to work on a schedule and it will get about 9.89KB and then says cancelled just like I made it quit the download. Any ideas on how to make one or both work now or what to look at to see if it is the issue? I do have a firewall and have it turned off. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
