Real time anti virus

I have been using the free AVG. anti virus. Seems I may have picked up a virus on one of the computers.

Does AVG guard against viruses getting onto the computer or just remove them when it runs its daily check.

If it does not guard against- is there a real time anti virus that will reject a bad file,etc. from even getting on the computer?

I'm not sure about AVG. If memory serves me correctly (I love this excuse!) the older versions of AVG didn't have a real-time scan. Just had a scanner.

I hate using the line that a lot of idiot firefox users say....switch to firefox it fixes everything....err wait...I meant

Try Avast! home edition. It is free and has real-time scanning.

i agree with theefool. i had avg and finally got tired of being told to get rid of virus in a file i could never find. when i switched to avast it found 26 viruses that avg never detected!!!! i have never had a problem since avasting!!! i also use free kerio and zone alarm at the same time. just make sure you enable 4 green checks in program control (za) to allow your browser free access to the net and to operate as a browser. avant browser was slow and locking up until i reconfigured za and kerio. best of luck!!! i also use spyware blaster and microsoft's antispyware but i must say i have much less spyware since installing microsoft's sp2. just make sure you disable your stanby mode before installing sp2 or it may install only half before your computer goes on stanby and that will wreck your computer programs. i had to brain wipe mine and start over!!! good luck
