Real-time Protection Against Malware & Trojans Etc?

Our household has a couple of PC's that have Avast Internet Security (AIS) and Malwarebytes Ant-malware (Mbam) licensed versions installed. We now have another PC that has AIS installed and was using Mbam trial version. I went to upgrade to the premium version and saw that it costs US$34 annually. I wish I had bought a few more lifetime licenses.

So, my question is, are there any GOOD and FREE programs that will give us real-time protection against Malware and Trojan programs. It must also provide that protection permanently, not just for 30 days or so like Mbam. Also, as that particular PC is mostly used for games, a program that does not impact on performance too much is preferred.

If there are no recommended free programs I'll consider buying one, but not one that requires payment of an annual subscription.

Probably should have said that the PC is using Windows 8.0 and Classic Shell.

 

Do you have these free programs installed on all those systems:
Spybot-Search & Destroy 2.4.40
SpywareBlaster 5.4
They both insert kill-bits into browsers such as Firefox, IE, Chrome etc that will safeguard against malware when surfing.
Their free versions provide that protection in real time.
The free version of
CryptoPrevent 7.4.20
will protect each of those systems against very severe Cryptolocker malware or ‘ransomware’, which encrypts personal files and then offers decryption for a paid ransom.

 

I recall using Spybot and SpywareBlaster many years ago, but have never come across CryptoPrevent. I'll take a look at them.

I actually use both in the free versions. They use no real time resources.

I use CryptoPrevent v7.4.21, SpywareBlaster 5.4, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free Version 2.2.0.1024, Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Free, SuperAntiSpyware Free 6.0.1216, along with Windows Defender on my Win8.1 and Win7 PCs. All Free programs. I just keep them updated.
