    HI
I know that there is a geek out there somewhere who can tell me why I cant seem to open or initialize or setup downloaded programs. I keep getting errors i.e.:
    a. "CRASHCATCHER.dll is linked to a missing export NTDLL.dll: _wcsnicmp"
ERROR: "a device attached to the system is not functioning"
    b. "Error reading setup initialization file"

I have installed, uninstalled programs several times. Still nothing! Even reinstalled the windows98Se, Still nothing!

I am using Windows 98SE. (I know, I'm in the process of searching for parts to build an XP. so dont laugh).

Please try to address this " program not opening" problem.

    many thanks in advance

    Error reading setup initialization file
    Solution:
This error is usually the result of an unsuccessful download. Sometimes an installer package will have appeared to have downloaded successfully, because no error message was given about the download; however, you will not always receive an error message when the entire file was not downloaded successfully. When you run the exe file, it has enough information available to start running, but it will only get far enough to provide the error message shown above. Since it does not have the complete file content, it will not be able to read the setup inititializaton file.

If you receive this error message, you will need to try downloading the file again.

Might I suggest that it could be a problem with bad ram ....or a virus.

MIne was bad ram stopping the setups ....though I thought it was virus related.
After exhaustive virus scans, replaced the ram and all was well.
