Really odd problem...

Okay, I don't know how in the world this could happen, but here goes. When I turned my computer on this morning, it said windows had some error and it can't start up properly, due to either new software or hardware changes. I click, enter in safe mode. That brings me back to the menu, then I hit last known good configuration, and I get into windows. Okay, now that I'm in windows, everything looks funky. -.-; I took a screenshot, and all my fonts are like broken, even while I'm typing on MG, all fonts look retarded. But, I have a feeling there are deeper problems than just font... I'm going to attach an image of my start menu.

By the way, the only thing I downloaded yesterday was Winamp, and it worked fine until I shutdown....

So, does anybody have any clue what exactly happened? Or what I should do?

 

Try windows classic theme. Same problem?
Does it happen in Safe Mode?

I can't figure out how to get anywhere, everything is impossible to read.

The first time I tried safe mode it didn't load, I'll try again and report back.

I disabled system restore =/

Edit: Alright, I tried safemode, still the retarded font continues...

I'm not sure if you noticed the edit, but no, it doesn't work in safe mode. It's such a hassle to even read what you say x.x... The font is like ... bold, tiny and really close.

 

What he said. We've had this happen a couple times here, no clear resolution.

 

I never got a windows XP cd, so sfc isn't going to work, and there's no way I can surf with my font like this. I ran a an AV scan, no viruses... And spyware scan turned out clean (except for some nero spyware, but I'm not deleting that since ad-aware doesn't seem to get it)...

So, is there anybody who had this and has a normal computer x.x?

 

Winamp gone.. fonts are still here. Oh well, I guess it was worth a shot...

 

IF this is OEM, SFC should still work. If not, fix the registry keys so it does

try it out first.

 

Erm, it asks for a CD (I think, it prompts me and has a picture of a CD) so I assume it means, insert windows XP cd.

 

Do you have an i386 directory on the root of your drive?

If yes, how big is it?

 

Erm, it's really hard to navigate, if somehow get a theme from the net, will it fix my font issue for now, until I can find anything? I tried doing a search, but I couldn't tell which search option was which. I might've clicked pictures and movies, or something else... Ugh, this is annoying.

What is your Screen/Display Resolution set to?
Some of the newer programs screw up the font
with the higher resolution, they come with their own
set of fonts.....It's happened once
to me....and 16b/24b...has something to do with it
too.....Can't hurt to try resetting to a different one.

PS....also check to see what your preferred font is
set on....that looks like a symbol font?

 

Changing resolution doesn't work... And making the font bigger does nothing. Look at the picture I posted, all text I see (almost, like, when I put stuff in the quick reply box, it becomes normal, so anytime you post, I have to copy and paste it into here to read) is blocky like that. It's practically impossible to read.

 

Okay, after looking through every menu in tweak UI, since I can't read it, I found rebuild fonts, and it didn't work . By the way, somehow I got search to work, and it seems I have many i386 folders. Some in my driver cache, one in servicepack files, a couple in lib, one in driver files. Are any of those the correct ones?

 

I think I found my problem! I checked my font folder and there was only 4 fonts, and the messed up font that I see everywhere is one of the 4 fonts. I assume, my fonts got deleted somehow...

 

Hello, have you resolved your problem and if so how did you do it ? A friend of mine has exactly the same problem.
