Hi, I have owned my computer for nearly 7 years. Its Old yea, Its Xp HE Sp2, and recently like always weird stuff has been happening. Its pretty bad now. My internet explorer Doesnt work. I made a simple change in reinstalling my video driver. I login to windows after i restart it and a message appears, which now likes to make itself known:

"We have detected significant hardware change. You must activate windows in 3 days."

Im like ok, Obviously another tedious error. Even if i click activate now, i need a internet connection. After i sign in that key reappears to the left my clock not right away i have to wait a good 20 mins then itll reappear. After clicking on it, the regular activation screen appears, but it shows those missing pic symbols which indicate it cannot load the page properly, so its blank blue. So it wont let me activate. That registration key shortcut doesn't appear in my Start_Panel_All Programs_ Accessories. This is really strange, but Yea now i have 2 days left i cannot figure out where in the registry, or where i can disable this shit. I havent reformatted this computer in over 1 year. This seems like a virus or something to me, am i being hacked? I dont know what to think.

So there you have, I'm lost i got 2 days left and i cannot reformat my harddrive, I have to much valuable information. What should i do? :major

Activate over the phone (the middle option of the three when you click the activate icon).
Have paper and pen handy because you will be supplied with a very long alph-numeric string.

    this is a good idea.

However, you also have to consider the fact that due to the age of the computer, that it might be on it's last leg.

you can at least get into Windows, so just as a precaution, I would get an External HD and begin backing up your drive to it. Then, if you want to continue troubleshooting, you have peace of mind that your data is safe somewhere.

ultimately, you might want to consider getting a newer machine and then transfer your files to the new machine.

    Current Situation: Blank Activation Screen

My Activation Screen Looks like this the whole time even now:

Hopefully this will shed some on light on this rare occurrence.

This is what i did, with only approximately 20 hours left to fix the registration time problem. The problem got worse. It seemed like the registry got corrupted. I could no longer login either with regular or safe mode.

So i logged everything in a notebook whilst screaming at my pc and calling it names:

The apocalypse is here, my mission is simple : Recover My Files then Reformat
But how can i do that when my hardware and operating system XP HE SP2 is aged? Perhaps, This is a bug with SP2, It has been well over a year since i have last reformatted.

Registry Values Changing without permission used WinPatrol to block changes. System Files began disappearing. I saw i was Getting odd trackers through my lan network log. Scanned my computer, found the 2 Trojan trackers. Removed with Malwarebytes, Scanned again with spybot, Emsioft Superanti and lavasoft. Only cookies were found. Also used a program named Unhack me to protect me from corrupt changes. My computer was literally making files to replace the dissapearing files; with corrupt files, and versions, or unknown files with identical names. I began too, losing permissions over files and applications. Halted with restricted access.

For these reason i came to this forum for assistance. But it only got worse after that point. Everytime, i would restart my computer things would be slower and not working as efficiently, which i knew would happen. But i tell you i have a Castle Stone wall of Firewall with mgs at the top in each corner.

    My Next step:

Find out why the key is showing up
Oobe.reg and Folder Missing, wbl.dll <- missing too ( i might have the name wrong)

That doesnt answer why all the other stuff is happening. Perhaps my few changes to drivers and organization in my pc corrupted the registry. It would be my guess.

I began Uninstalling programs downloaded in the past month. Organizing files for extraction from another harddrive. Active X Goes down, Eventually i restart and i got a blue screen. but i was unable to get the code. I was unable to enable disable auto restart on crash.

Then I spent time with the operating system cd, reinstalled cd xp sp2 over my current xp sp2, then I ran repair, and used the commands,

" Fixboot " Redirect to second harddrive. Booted computer on second hardrive. Could have recovered files and left, but instead since this is going so nicely i decided to try and fix the problem. Before I restarted i Secured my storage harddrive which is my second hard drive, with Similar programs on my primary hard drive just to be on the safe side. In other words i merged the two harddrives. Then I rebooted back in to the Windows Menu and repaired the Primary harddrive with command. " Chkdsk /r " . 1 Hour later, this check disk ran longer then what i have seen on average.

Then i ran these commands in order for Oobetimer :

    %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a - Dir to repair
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll "- Microsoft r VBScript"
    regsvr32 jscript.dll " - Java Script "
    regsvr32 licdll.dll " - Operating Module "
    %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

" oobe /msoobe " Files were Restored after check disk.

Successful! No more blue screen on the Primary Hd, Now used command in Run with my Os Cd in the Cd drive tray, " sfc /scan now ". UnSuccessful! Nothing changed after i restarted it. Previously i was facing one problem after another, but now things are missing, left unorganized.

I secured " control userpasswords2 " and permissions and there are no more locked folders and applications.

I check " Devmgmt.msc " and " Msconfig " Msconfig seems fine. Drivers all missing as expected, Display Adapter is missing completely. Reinstalled Nvidia Bus Drivers that came with the pc. Which Resolved the problem.

Installed Sp3, and things work better and the Wpa Notification now says i have 30 days! Phew!

How do you suppose i fix that blue screen error, if it were to happen again?

I am not going to reformat yet if i can fix it. I suppose i will call Microsoft now and report it, but i cant see my activation screen!!!!

I used WGADiag and a few times during changes, and it would say mine is genuine and the Wpa would still be there telling me to activate. and now all it says its deactivate and resolved button is inactive.

Problem Solved : Hardware Failure, Replaced the Ram and Cpu on the Mainboard and now its running faaaaaaaaast. This computer is old, and it still had original cpu and ram. After i reformatted it, it still was acting weird and the activation screen was the same and things were not being displayed correctly! Haha, I shouldn't have started this thread, but this began as out of the ordinary. Never seen this crap before, its like drinking with a stranger you dont like.
