Realtek ALC883 Randomly Not Detected on MSI Motherboard.

Hi there. I've looked everywhere, and now finally resulted to posting it here. So, here's the problem:

I was speaking on ventrilo with some friends of mine, I went away from the keyboard for a bit, came back and my sound was gone. The on-board sound is a Realtek ALC883. It's always been fine, but up til today it just went away on it's own and I haven't been able to find a way to get it back. The motherboard is an MSI K9N6SGM-V, I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2. Here's what I've tried so far:

• Uninstalled ALL the sound drivers, rebooted and reinstalled.
• Disabled the on-board sound, loaded windows, rebooted and reloaded it.
• Tried updating the Realtek drivers from the site once more.
• Checked the Windows Audio in Services, it's set to automatic and running.

Also, when I check the device manager, it doesn't list the Realtek ALC883. Instead, it just lists the "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio". At first I thought my on-board sound may have just died as in a hardware failure issue, but I doubt it considering this motherboard has been in use only a few months. The only other thing I can think of, is that I plugged a Creative Fatal1ty headset into it, but I don't see why that would do it.

If anyone knows why this is caused, and how it can be solved (preferably without having to reformat), it would be appreciated.

I think I may end up going to buy a new motherboard & soundcard anyway today.
