    hi to all

    i got a problem

i have an asus p5gd1 and windows xp pro sp2 with all the update

the audio drivers High Definition Audio Codecs are pretty old , i downloaded sometime ago from the asus page

i bought the utility Driver Cleaner.NET

well i can't update my audio drivers
i go in the realtek site http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
    and
    i download Windows 2000, Windows XP/2003(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file) R2.58 2011/3/2 WDM_R258.exe

    well what i did was
uninstall realtek audio drivers from control panel
    reboot
    reboot in safe mode
run Driver Cleaner.NET , cleaned the realtek filter
    install the drivers reboot
    no sound

the weird thing is that i download the w7 audio installer , because i wanted to try w7 32bit , so i installed the trial version of windows 7 on another hard disk ,installed the Vista, Windows7 Driver (32/64bits) Driver only (Executable file) form the realtek homepage and it works perfectly

for a video card i have an ATI HD 5000 video card , when i mounted
i disabled under windows xp in the hardware manager one of the 2 microsoft uaa bus driver for high definition audio (the ati high definition audio)
    because i got bsod/crashes

well the audio is working with the old asus realtek drivers , but when i try to updagrade to the new , there is no sound , no errors

    what could i do ?

    thanks to all

    Hi drughetto, welcome to MG's.
I would strongly advise you to upgrade xp from sp2 to sp3, doing so will fix a lot of glitches and issues like the one you are having. Then try the new audio driver updates.

but are dated to 2007 and thanks to majorgeek!!

but the new drivers doesn't work ,Realtek High Definition Audio for 2K/XP/03 downloaded from major geeks, after the reboot there is not no sound :cry

    Hi,
    Try this driver....

    http://majorgeeks.com/Realtek_AC97_Drivers_d4400.html

download and save to desktop (do not run until the next steps have been run)

    download this...

    http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Sweeper_d6171.html

uninstall the realtek driver you have on your system via add/remove programs
then in safemode run driver sweeper> select the realtek audio/sound > click Analyze> click Clean (run the clean button twice to remove any residual leftovers)> Re-boot into normal mode> click out of any *found new hardware*> now run the realtek AC97 driver> once installed you *MUST* re-start your system for the changes to take effect.

    thanks
    i did
winodws doesn't want to accept the Realtek AC97, a window pups up to tell me they are the wrong drivers , i select to force to install the drivers
    i rebooted , i have a weird sound
to have a decent sound i have to install a old Realtek High Definition Audio version

again the weird thing is under w7 Realtek High Definition Audio for Vista\Win 7 last version downloaded from major geeks works 100%
under xp pro Realtek High Definition Audio for 2K/XP/03 doesn't give me any sound

what could cause the absence of sound

tha audio card is intel high definition audio realtek alc 861

i tried to search in the forum for a similar case , did not found

    Ok!!
Does the vista/win7 driver work with the XP OS, if so I would just stick with that as it will be a newer driver version anyway. Is there any yellow ! marks next to your sound card in device manager?

Also check to see if the windows audio service is running....

To check the default windows audio service click on start-->run-->type services.msc-->Search for windows audio service.check whether the service is started or not. This should be set to Automatic.

    Hi,
When you downloaded the updated drivers from Asus was it from here..

    http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P5GD1&p=1&s=22

and did you download all three (Version V5.10.0.5027) and unzip into one folder and execute as instructed ??
The top two updates are not for your OS as they are for 64bit systems.
