    Hey guys,

Just registered for this site. I've been having a similar issue with these stupid Realtek HD Audio Drivers.

Just bought a Gigabyte S-series Mobo
    EP35C-DS3R

First off...this thing says right on the box that it comes with the Intel P35 Express Chipset but when I got to Intel's site and install the .INF utility that scans your computer for chipsets (this is called ChipUtil.exe) it says I have a G33/G31 Chipset....

Anyway, I use to get an error when trying to install the Realtek HD drivers. I read up online that the Realtek driver includes the Microsoft UAA driver and that's why it errors out. I followed the directions of this site to deleted the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD Audio (seen under services in Device Manager).

I then installed Realtek Driver (file path MSHDQFE->Win2K_XP->US->kb888111exsp2.exe) and everything worked fine.

I then proceeded to install SP3 (like an idiot) and have not been able to get the stupid thing to work ever since. I was able to uninstall SP3 from Add/Remove programs and confirmed I'm back in SP2 from the System Screen (control panel ->system).

I've tried loading the realtek drivers many times and they install and request restart but then when I restart the UAA driver is never listed and the realtek audio control panel never shows up.

I also tried searching for the Microsoft UAA file itself and installing that first. (kb835221.exe) and that also doesn't seem to install the actual UAA file (not seen in the services area of device manager).

When I go to: start->all programs->accessories->entertainment->volume control I get the following error message.

"There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices go to control panel, click printers and other hardware, and then click add hardware"

I've also tried this but I have an ATI T200 Unified AVStream Driver that keeps installing itself if I remove it (from device manager). I'm wondering if I should uninstall my graphics card software again and try installing the realtek drivers first?

    Any thought would be appreciated.

Sorry, missed your post, when you put it up.

First, HD audio isn't supported by SP3 yet, but I have come across a patch that seems yo help.
That won't help you at the moment though.

Give this a try and see if you can get your sound back:
(complete any steps that are available to you, some may not be)
    1) In Device Manager, remove the High Definition audio device (or the unknown device, if there is one) under Sound, Video & Game controllers.
    2) Go into Device Manager>System, right click the UAA Hi-Def Bus driver.
Disable the device and then uninstall it. (Do not re-boot yet)
    3) Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (you may just have a folder that says Realtek) through Add/Remove Programs (if it's installed but not working)
    KB888111
In Add/Remove Programs, look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it. (It may have uninstalled in last step)
If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer.
To work around this problem, follow these steps.

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.

Reboot, but don't let Windows install the driver.
Install your driver, then reboot, again.

The UAA should be contained in this download.
