    Greeting Everyone,

I could use some help in using RealVNC with the SmartBro internet provider. I want to remotely control my XP computer from one city to the other here in the Philippines. I use RealVNC as my remote desktop program. From what I've been googling I don't have to use the portforward.com site because I don't have a wireless router like a Linksys WRT-54G. I am not sure what kind of topology smartbro uses. I'm guessing I have a direct connection to the internet. If someone knows please inform me. I have only been succesful once in remotely connecting to my neighbors house using RealVNC. We have the same IP address, example: 205.222.142.511. Couldn't connect using 205.222.142.511:5900 or 5800, but when I tried the number the RealVNC server gave me when I hovered my mouse over the system tray icon, example: 192.168.143.111 and adding ":5900" it worked successfully. I like to remotely control my other computer in another city, but it has a different IP address example: 126.90.253.2. I've failed miserably trying to connect using ":59000 and :5800". I already have a DynDNS.com account and set up the hosts and the updater on both computers. What can I do? I've already tried using the DynDNS.com hostnames and that didn't work either in RealVNC. How do I enter the address & port it in the RealVNC viewer box with those IP's or do I have to enter it like this, example: 205.222.142.511/192.168.143.111:5900? Please help. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. :)

ok ill try and explain this but i suck at explaining things.

The addresses starting with 192.168.*.* are going to be local ip addresses. So they are only valid on a local network.

Im assuming that the computer that your connecting to is connected to the internet via a router. The ip address you need to connect to is the ip address of the router.

You then need to configure your router so that when it receives a connection on port whatever its then forwards this to your pc.

I assume the reason you can connect to your friends is because they either have a direct connection to the net or have the router configured already.

    Hello,
Thank you for your reply. From what I can tell there is no routers involved. It's a direct connection. How they have it set up here in the Philippines is that they set up a wireless antenna pointing to a base station. They did not provide a router so I'm unsure of how the topology is here. What I'd like to know is if I have the public ip adress how do I get into the local ip address so I could connect with realvnc? When I start RealVNC viewer do I have to put in the box public ip adress and the local ip adress with a / eg:"205.132.XXX.XXX/192.168.0.1:5900"?

I've asked around and some have guessed that it might be a Smartbro 3G data service network that use NAT routers, but are unsure of the infrastructure. It's been suggested to try to use the NAT-to-NAT tool http://www.uvnc.com/addons/nat2nat.html
