rebooting old packard

Hi, I have this old computer that I have been trying to get running again. A while back I had formatted the hard disk, but for some reason I never reinstalled the OS. So now when I turn it on I get the “invalid system disk error” which is occurring because there’s nothing on the hard disk to boot it up with. So since Windows 95 cd isn’t bootable I go and grab my floppy 95 boot disk and set the computer to boot from the floppy in BIOS. When I go to turn it on and wait for it to boot it tells me to “remove disks or other media" and that’s where I’m stuck at.

I have tried different versions of the 95 boot disk
The computer has a cd drive
All the hardware is in good condition as far as I know

The green light flashes on the floppy, cd rom, and hard disk drives when I boot it up. Then they go off of course, but they are active when I use them.
I am using 3.5 inch floppies.

And over at the tech guys forum one person had told me:
“Do you have the BIOS set to seek at boot time?”
i dont know what that means but i would love to know.

It is a Packard Bell Legend 408CD
with a 75 MHz Pentium CPU
1 GB hard drive
8 MB of ram
and a “quad speed cdrom”.

The tech guys also told me:
"Either:

The floppy is not bootable
The diskette drive is configured wrong
The Diskette drive is bad
Diskette drive cable is bad
Diskette drive cable is installed incorrectly"
Which didnt help out at all.


My last resort is to drag it into the shop... but it seems like a simple software mistake i have made

Do you have access to a Win98 boot disk? If so boot with that and then type /format C /s at the prompt once the machine has booted. That should make your hd bootable.
