The second amendment and the NRA will continue to guarantee that people have the right to own guns; that will unlikely change. Perhaps it may be an idea to take a different approach. That is, I think it can be reasonably argued that more resources need to be devoted to wellness and mental health. Specifically people who are mentally ill need to be treated and proper screening practices need to be put in place to support and identify people at risk. Too often mentally ill people are pushed aside by society.

One way or another, something needs to be done. This crap is getting way too frequent.

The chances of any realistic gun control in the US are probably zero because any new impositions will only effect those gun holders with certificates and the thousands (maybe millions) of unregistered weapons will continue to dominate the crime statistics.
They speak of phyc evaluation but again only those who abide by the rules will participate.
The second amendment would need to be altered but the gun lobbies are far too strong to allow that so the only option left open is stop and search but that is numerically impossible for the police to implement.
I personally do not know the answer to this dilemma but there is a definite need for some sort of control on the ease by which weapons and ammo can be bought and sold.

Yes, like it or loathe it, guns are an integral backbone of American society. That won't change in our lifetimes. But the guns aren't the problem, more a symptom. As said, the rules and laws only apply to the law-abiding citizens, who aren't the problem, anyway. Just like anyone can get drugs easily if they want to, but the substances alone aren't the problem in itself.
Mental health issues only receive a fraction of the funding and general resources that any physical disease or injuries receive. Yet I'm sure we all agree that the brain is the most vital organ of all. Why is that? Our social fabric and training of traditional and family values are totally neglected, despite this being the most important education in life, i.m.o. Again - why?
Guess that in the chase for the mighty Dollar, most people haven't a clue what the real priorities in life are, i.m.h.o.

MA closed the last discussion on this, and the person that re-opened a can of worms in a new thread suddenly disappeared.

I don't know I would have created a new thread on it.

Closed for review. I wouldn't expect it to reopen. These threads get hot quick, every time.
