Yesterday I purchased a GFX card and attempted to install it. I ran into a problem getting past the initial bios screen. The Bios would load then the card would stop working, the monitor going into stand by. I updated the bios thinking it was just out of date. I don't think that was the issue however. Placing my old GFX card back into the slot showed that the issue was not with the motherboard or the PSU being bad.

Could it be incompatibility, or lack of power? The motherboard is old...

New card: Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5670 GV-R567OC-1GI
    PSU: Okia 450atx (450W)
    Motherboard: ASUS A8N-E

The old parts work fine with each other.. :cry

Your PSU might be underpowered. Try putting your specs into this site and seeing what result you get. I would recommend setting TDP to 100% and capacitor ageing to 30%
