hey guys, i am in the process of planning out the computer i am going to build. i was wondering if you guys would be kind enough to recomend companies for all the good stuff (ex: motherboards, cd-rom, cd-dvd burners, video cards, sound cards). i am planning on using this computer for both school and fun, i will be putting diablo II and the expansion pack on it, that should be my only game. thanks guys.

for motherboards, avoid ecs and asrock
for cdrom drives, go for lite-on or nec or derivatives thereof
video cards, go for... well, pretty much anyone works.
sound cards, go for the chaintech av-710 as the most effective one

have you done research on what types of components? (eg intel/amd, nvidia/ati, etc)

dvd burner definitely go for pioneer/sony/ lite-on (i think that's how it's spelt!)
they'e always given best performance and are reliable, especially sony - never had a problem with them and i have sony everything practically at home!
Creative for the soundcard???? the new dolby 6.1 is supposed to be good but i'm only on the 5.1 so....
it's up to you whether to go with Ati and Radeon or nVidia and Geforce - both offer really good performance and the drivers can be obtains easily from their websites!
as for mobo's i don't really know enough there so if someone could help me on that one???

but yeah i hope that gives you a little bit of info, sorry i couldn't give more help!

Video Card- Depends on what you like.
Processor- Depends on what you like.
Opticals- Plextor is the best. No other company comes close. Sony and TDK are next in line with Lite-on next after that.
Motherboards- Abit is one of the best for Intel Chips, ASUS is one of the best for Athlons
Sound Card- Audigy 2 ZS is the best one you can get really. It's up to 7.1 btw. nForce audio is pretty good but only for athlon xp's.

    HDD: maxtor, or seagate
    Sound: Sound Blaster
    case: thermaltake's are awsome...

If you can post your limit (cash-wise) we can put together some more specific suggestions. Also, if you already have any components from another system, let us know which ones. That way we won't post something you don't need.
