I am building a PC for a friend, he does lots of Photoshop work and would like to do some 3D designing.

He currently has a laptop, and would like a desktop.

Budget £700 Incl All accessories like monitor etc.

I do not know much about GPU's for Graphic desiging, he says that NVidia are the best because they have Open GL, so would something like a GTX 285 be a good choice?

I have a build in mind, but would like to compare it to some of your recommendations, and compare, thankyou!

Please choose all components from This site. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/

Just spoken to him, the £700 does not include a monitor.

He's not referring to the nVidia Quadro series of workstation cards is he? Those are the preferred choice for 3D and CAD designers but can be very expensive. $400-$1000 US, not sure what that equates to in pounds.

    +1 on the quadro cards

They are expensive but well worth it for 3D Rendering/Design

No, he is not looking at spending that much, around £180 max for the GPU. Around $230 for you guys ;)

Here you go, I know it is not from overclockers but I use eBuyer all the time and I have found them to offer a great deal on most things.

Thanks for that, I may start using OCs more in the future then.

For design work, the faster the processor, and the faster the interface, the faster images/movies etc are processed and the faster edits are made.

The i5 has a faster architecture, therefore I would use the i5 over the i3 for video processing etc. But if he can afford an i7 in 1366 rather than 1156 it would be even better.

I'd look into AMD because of it being a budget rig

The i3 and i5 has Hyper Threading which pretty much makes them a quad.

But i will look into that 955, if you can find any photoshop reviews that would really help.

Not really. It helps but they aren't as fast as 2 more physical cores.
