I have used Earthlink TotalAccess for a very long time. I like the program well enough, especially the fact that very easily with very little effort I can have my emails sorted into 3 catagories. One folder is for folks whom I have approved and those go straight into my inbox. Then I have a folder called Suspect Email where unapproved emails goes, this is where all of my newsletters get sent to which makes it super easy to see important stuff in my inbox. Then I have a folder called Spam which is nearly all of the time actually Spam. Earthlink does a great job at not only catching most Spam but if i send them the header from the email they track down the sender and poof their emails start going tothe Spam folder. Spam has never been an issue with Earthink.

The reason I am thinking of changing email programs is because once you have downloaded your email into your inbox it resides on that computer forever. You can not access your inbox from any computer and when you upgrade computers you must physically put the email file onto the new computer.

Both have not really been an issue until now. I volunteer at my church office and sometimes when I am there I need to access an email to see info and alas it is home on my personal machine.

Can anyone give me a recommendation for an email program that is easy to setup and has an approval process for people you want emails from and does a good job handling spam?
    Thanks, Brenda

    Hi

Couple of questions to your questions

Is it that you want email service that can be accessed via any computer? if so then online email from say Hotmail, Gmail etc is a good option, as you can connect to it via any PC that has an internet connection.

If you also want this email to download to a program as well as being accessable via the internet on any PC, then you can also install Windows Live Mail as it has the capability of accessing many various email services including the online Hotmail and Gmail services.

This route gives you best of both worlds in being able to access your email from anywhere online and the ease of use when at your PC to save and manage email, both online services from Gmail and Hotmail now have pretty good spam filters.

I used Earthlink for several years and liked it. I would stilll be using it but had to change when the local telephone company, my DSL provider, changed from Sprint to Embarq.

With Earthlink, I did not use their TotalAccess software; it's not needed. Were you aware of this? You can use Outlook Express, Outlook, Windows Live Mail, which Halo mentioned, or any other common email client, i.e. email software, installed on your computer.

Let's say you decided to use Outlook Express for your Earthlink mail. You would create a POP mail account in Outlook Express. Then, you could set Outlook Express to leave messages on the server for a certain period of time. During that time, you could still access those messages via Earthlink's WebMail using some other computer. And, you would still have the "approval process for people you want emails from"; using a common email client with Earthlink mail does not prevent that.
