I have a 4 year old desktop using ME. It has an Athlon Thunderbird 1400 chip & 1 gig of RAM. Works fine. I just bought a Compaq laptop with an Athlon chip, I believe a 3100, with 1 gig of RAM. OS is XP Pro. I have been having trouble setting up a wireless network and think the problem might be the difference in operating systems. The router is up and running and I can access the internet from both computers.

Since Microsoft has announced that they will soon stop supporting ME, perhaps it is time to go to a different OS on my desktop. I do a lot of digital photography and Excel spread sheets and web surfing.

Should I get XP Pro for the desktop or is XP Home OK? Also, I have been told to get a full version and not try to upgrade my ME. Any thoughts on that?

I will appreciate any and all advice.

Upgrade versions of Windows are exactly the same as "full" versions.

Only difference is when installing, it will ask you to insert the Windows ME (or whatever) CD as proof that you're eligible.

Apart from that, there is no difference in the OS whatsoever.

Do not, however, upgrade over an existing Windows ME (or whatever) installation.

Do a format and install instead.
