I am looking for the most recommended ANti-Virus software to run with ZoneAlarm (free version) as my firewall.

Norton was just causing too many problems for me.

When I downloaded and ran AVG, it scanned, but the LOG FILES would tell me that the scan had failed, so I dont feel comfortable using that.

Any suggestions from the pros here?

The ZoneAlarm Security Suite has an AntiVirus component as well as the firewall.

Trend Micro is the antivirus I think?

McAfee is pretty good, as is Kaspersky.

Nobody here is surprised that Norton was causing too many problems. Norton causes WAY too many problems. On WAY too many computers.

Are you SURE the AVG scan log didn't say that it had "failed to find any infection," rather than the scan just "failed"?

I've never heard of any conflict between ZAFree and AVG before now.

could i post the results here from my LOG after running AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic for Windows for someone to look at?

TO me it looks like it is telling me that it cannot access my files that they are locked or password protected. So I am not quite sure what is going on?

    Thanks so much.

Are you logged in with Admin Control when you run this thing?

It's denying access to folders as though you had no admin privileges for them.

Just hoping that you are uninstalling previous A-V progs before installing new, and same with Firewalls, :) only run 1 of each

What operating system are you using?

Do you have Administrator privileges and are there any restrictions?

Try rebooting in Safe Mode and doing a scan.

Reboot, repeatedly tap F8 and select Safe Mode from the options.

lol, this is getting confusing guys.

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

I'll leave you to it so I don't complicate things.

AVG should work fine with ZA, I used the combo before.
    I prefer Avast & Sygate.

If you were previously running Norton, you may have not removed all of it, Norton is hard to get rid of.

What ever antivirus program you use, Only use one to avoid conflicts.
You can still use other stuff like anti spyware utilities like Adaware/spyware blaster/spybot search & destroy, which all will work fine with most any Antivirus & firewall program.

ASUS and Insom are spot on: the problem is likely to be administrative rights and leftovers from Norton. Get RegSeeker from Major Geeks, run the Registry Cleaner function of it, and take out everything it finds. Search your hard drive for any folder names with Norton in them, too. Those two steps should get Norton out of there, but maybe not. It's an extremely tenacious pest.
As for the admin rights, check that out. Is this a shared machine? It looks as though you have no access rights to major folders when you're logged in as YOU. Can you log in as Admin?

okay, let me try to log in as ADMIN and run it.

Let me make sure ALL OF NORTON is off the machine. This does include all SYMNATEC files right???? like LIve update?? Cuz that is still on there.

and the other question i have is how to disable ON-Access Scanner in Avast, so that it stops taking up half my screen at the bottom while im surfing.

You'd better post a New Thread to ask about Avast. People who know the answer won't necessarily be reading this one.

    G'luck with all of this.

Too stop on access scanner, right click on th avast icon in your system tray, list is displayed it's the bottom one.

Avast also has resident scanner, start avast then click on the avast icon for settings
