We recently bought a new iMac, the 21.5 inch at $1499. Would like to record some cassettes to digital but I don't see a "line in"port mentioned online for older macs. Is there a workaround?

If there's a microphone in port, that would be what you use. Decrease the level of microphone input in your mixer to prevent overload. There's also USB Audio Connectors you can check into.

Thanks for reply. There's not a mike in port. Would this work with a program like QuickTime with a USB adaptor?

I did some searching and this one popped up:
    http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA222-U-Control-Ultra-Low-Downloadable/dp/B0023BYDHK/ref=pd_cp_MI_1
It has phono plugs which your cassette deck will patch into directly.

This one is $10 more and will need a 1/8 to phono plug adapter but it is Apple certified if that is a concern:

The input can be switched between mic and preamp style like a cassette deck would use.
