Recording Instruments

I am about to help a friend build a pc that is going to be specifically for a home recording studio. I know that I will probably get him the creative platinum sound card but does anyone know of some specific hardware that I should consider for him (for recording)? I know there are a couple of specific hardware pieces out there but its been a long time since I ran across them.

He will be recording guitar, bass, drum and what ever else he can get a hold of and then mixing it and laying it down on cd to sell/give away.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If he's going to use one JUST for Home Recording then maybe he should go with a Mac. Most professional studios use Macs for recording. If he wants a PC, the only thing i can think of is to make sure the sound card has an input for a mixing board (if he has one) and enough CPU power (recording is CPU intensive.) Also needed would be a large enough hard drive to store all the software, as well as uncompressed takes of his songs. I'd say 120-160 gbs would be fine.

 

I have a friend that is into the same thing as what you are wanting to do...and like HollisBrown said...Just get a mac!!!!

My friend had a comp built that was supposed to be sweet for music recording/editing...and he said it wasn't bad but then he finally broke down and bought an apple powerbook (don't know specific model) and said he felt like he had died and gone to heaven!!!!!!
