    I'm looking at MS's site about MCE-XP ver. 2002 with sp2.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/mediacenter/using/setup/default.mspx

I understand you use the s-video port to copy the video, but how do you get the sound?
Also, in the media center mode, what do you use to record things off the TV?
It's a friends laptop and I wanna help her out with this, since I wanna try to record some stuff myself.
    Thanks.

Hi there, the best way to do it is buy a USB 2.0 capture device.
You Can buy a HDTV usb capture device and you can get AV/S-Video to usb device for laptops.

The HDTV usb capture device is just like a Tv Antenna but for HDTV i do not think this pulls in analog tv you would have to read the specs on the one you want to buy. (I will post a picture on one out there on the market)

TheAV/S-Video to usb device it will allow you to record off any device allmost and if you want TV just plug it into your VCR, HDTV Tuner or DVD player if it has a turner built into it. (I will post a picture to show you how this would work)

I have a capture card installed in my PC witch dose the same thing as the usb one would do.

The only thing is the Minimum System Requirements:

Preview Mode display (no recording): Pentium III 1.0 GHz or AMD equivalent system.
    128MB of RAM (256MB preferred)
    Windows XP/2000 for USB2.0

Sound card needed for audio capturing along with video recording ( you just plug into your mic for this on a laptop).

Ebay has 100's of different types of these devicers and this will give you the best quality and most of the stuff comes with its own recording software that can do things like this:

Record and save videos in digital format for further video editing and production.

Video conference with video camera connected to usb video adapter.

Converting VHS video into DVD format.

Playing video games on laptop PC screen with game consoles connected to this adapter.

Turning microscope view into large screen display when hooked up with video camera.

Still image capture for photo album.

Video monitoring on your PC when connected with security cameras or other DVR surveillance systems.

Video display on desktop or laptop’s screen for all video entertainments

Hope this helps you out and if you have windows xp media center it has programs that let you record of this type of devicers built into media center.

Connect the TV, amplified turntable output audio device to the computer's Line In socket using a stereo audio cable. Any audio editing/ recording software can will of use. Suggests to try FlexiMusic Wave Editor to record things off the TV.
