Are there any good free programs that can recover a file after it has been deleted and the recycling bin has been emptied?
    Thanks

I have the same question, but I couldn't find them using freeundelete. I went to try system restore, but there aren't any restore points.

Is there another way to recover files?

Try this one PC Inspector File Recovery 4.0

note: you will need a secondary location ( Logical Drive i.e ZIP, CD, Netword or 2nd HD ) to save any recovered files to as you cannot recover to the drive you are searching for your deleted files.

Thanks Halo, but I couldn't find them with that either. I don't even know if they were deleted. I wasn't there when the files were lost. The program they use stores files in a certain folder and something happened(not sure what he did) and now they are gone. This program is basically a spreadsheet that is made up of about 8 sheets that are each saved as an excel file into the job folder(each job has its own folder and own files). The folder is still there but empty. If he deleted the job in the program the folder would be gone, too. The other files from previous jobs are still there, but the files for this job seemed to have just disappeared. I can't find them on the hard drive anywhere.

    Cochese, Hi

Have you done an advanced search for date created or for file type ( dependent on spreedsheet app used in case its not located in the usual save locations ) ?

also just a thought as I dont know the PC setups, but is the PC on a network? if so maybe the files were saved accidently to the last know saved location? ( I know I accidently do that sometimes when not paying 100% attention, as our network has 3 shared drives and a restricted drive ( my provate stuff ) as well as the PCs C: Drive )

RecoverMyData is AMAZING, just recovered a formatted 20gig harddrive last night and wow. Unreal what it did. Now I'm just trying to save the bookmarks into an .htm file. GetDataBack isn't that great, tried it and no.
but RecoverMy Data gets my 2 thumbs up.

Thanks bocaj, I will try that.

@ Halo, it's a laptop and it's not on a network. Sorry I wasn't specific on the stats, but it's not my comp and aside from being a Dell and being xp I don't know much about it. I have done a search for excel files created within the last month on the entire hard drive(including temp, hidden and system files) but found nothing.

Apparently, he opened the program twice causing some kind of conflict. A window popped up asking something(he doesn't remember) and he hit cancel. After that the job files were gone. I think it is worth mentioning that this program isn't known for its stability. Somewhat buggy. Macros..

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try recovermydata.
I will keep messing with it until he decides he wants to start retyping three weeks worth of work.

    download . getdata . com / RecoverMyFiles-Setup . exe
    no spaces obviously... :)

Here's what their mod posted to someone else in a thread...

    # Run a Complete Format Recover.
    # Search the drive letter.
    # Search ONLY for the default selected file types.
    # At the end of the search look both in File View (for the selected file types) and Folder View (for all file types).
    # Click on the files found to preview their content.
    # If you see the files that you are looking for then purchase an activation key from www. recovermyfiles .com and save them to your other drive.

Trust me, this program is great, like I said I posted 2 days ago on how to recover a friends drive. Found this program, gave it a try and wham, 300+ bookmarks saved. Very worth it.

I couldn't find them with that either. Since it found about 200 other excel files that had been deleted I think that they are just gone. Thanks for the help, I will keep these programs for future use.

Before giving up entirely, sign up and post in the forum.
I was looking for the wrong thing initially (.htm) documents for the bookmarks.
Then I was told, they were under the email section as (.url)'s.
Never know. Some good help there.
