I lost many files and pictures when my computer crashed.
Is there a free program to recover? I have downloaded many and after it scans and finds, pics and files they want you to pay.

    Thank you

This is an old version of powerdatarecovery. It is free but you must tick the box for "I am a Home User" when you first start the program. If you already have a newer version of the program you might want to uninstall that version before installing this one. (No sure if the uninstall is necessary.)

Sorry it didn't help. I'm curious did it not find the files? Which option did you use? I've never actually had to recover files but many people have had luck with that program.

Which program worked but asked for money?

Photorec is a bit more difficult user interface but is supposed to be good.
Recuva is good if you just deleted the files accidentally.

Both did, the free one you gave me found files. It is just they were what looked like jiberage. I don't understand but I tried it. I do thank you though.

If you are still looking, I use Undelete360, its very fast and thorough, recovers files and pictures, and is completely freeware. Its available at a number of download sites or directly from Undelete360.com. Its the only data recovery software I use.

Let me know if you still need help.

Thank you for your suggestion. I am putting that in my note book in case I ever need to find files again. The powerdatarecovery worked awesome. A bit tricky to work with at first but it found everything.
    Thanks again
    GranDeb :)
