    I have a hard drive that crashed and will not boot up or perform a recovery. I installed a new hard drive and installed windows xp on the new one. Now, the old drive is also installed so that I can access the data files. I moved all of the data files to the new drive. Please note the old drive still has all of the windows system files on it, it was not re-formatted. The problem is, un-beknowest to me, that the user of this machine, use to use the recycle bin as a “storage” place for old project files. When they needed to see an old file she simply moved it out of the recycle bin. (I know this is bad) Well she is now looking for those files. Where can I look on the old drive for the recycle bin and recover those files. Will I need to purchase a software program such as win undelete? Please advise on where to look for these recycled files on a separate drive or which software you would recommend.

    i have downloaded Undelete Plus and when scanning the drive it shows everything as
    Sector count invalid-16173266229497976||8280712384726532096||18365129||8
    Start Sector invalid16173266376419008||8280712384726532096||18365129||8

    I am assuming that is because i have the drive set up as a secondary drive with the corrupted operating system still on it.

    At the root of the old hard drive should be a hidden folder called Recycler. Your stuff should be in there.

    Post back if you need help viewing hidden files.

    I can see the recycler but i am unable to see any of the files. the only see i am seeing are directories such as S-1-5-21-1454471165......

    When I right click on the RECYCLER folder it says there are 573 files and 28 folders. I have set the computer up to show all hidden folders.

    Any other suggestions?

    Try using a little app called 'Restoration' available free in the Data Recovery section here at MG.... I'm pretty sure you can set it for drive d: (or whatever your old drive is) and it'll pick out the stuff from the recycle bin as well as anything that was actually deleted.........
