Recover Hidden My Documents

Hi all geeks!!

This is my situation;-

1 Pc stopped booting to windows, stopped after password entered.
2 So now I have removed the Hard Drive and put it as a slave in another pc.
3 When one user account was created they decided to "make files private".
4 In explorer or command line I cannot see the users documents or settings
5 I need to get some of the private documents off the old hard drive.


am I looking in the right area f:\documents and settings\user ? Where user is the private account, or is it stored elsewhere?

Thanx for any help, I've searched internet but all show with a working windows environment.

Its \documents and settings\<user login name>.

User name can be "administrator", "owner" or something else. What user name did the person log onto the machine with?

 

Thats what I would have thought.
When I type dir f:docs and settings I get all other users but not the hidden one.
I do get 2 files one dot and two dots, don't know what they are?

thought 1, do I need to use attrib to change the read attributes?

thought 2, The file is on a hd from broken pc that is now a slave on another machine, so could I copy the entire docs and settings file and use windows to change the status. ( I think I would have to boot in safe mode to do that).

 

Was this machine on a domain? If so, that users My Documents could have been redirected to a server and not on the local machine at all.

It was there all along, but under the name of test!

I must have created the user account test then changed the name to chris. Found it by simply doing a search in explorer for chris.
