I just purchased a used laptop with vista and I need to recover the admin password

I've had good luck with ophcrack:

There is a version for both XP and Vista. You'll want the one titled:
ophcrack-vista-livecd-2.3.1.iso

 

Theres also a disc (iso) you can download that resets the passowrd for all nt systems.
