Hi, thanks for a great Website, l'm running W7 Ultimate 64bit - here's my problem:

l had to create a new profile for Mozilla Firefox (malware prob) which l saved to my Desktop (bad habit of mine) because l had awful trouble with "bad request page" error when in Ebay ie open new tabs, items, sellers etc, it drove me nuts.

l got rid of most of the malware prob that was affecting Firefox/ebay, so decided to delete my new profile from Firefox and keep the old one, this is when l struck problems:

All my Schematic PDF's and photo folders and several others folders on my desktop disappeared/deleted.

l downloaded a recovery program called "PC Inspector File Recovery" but l couldn't find the said files/folders on the lost or deleted sections of the Drive.

Does it matter if l'm using 64 bit and the recovery Program uses/looks for 8/16/32 fat files?

Is there another way of finding those files/folders? using a different program or W7 itself, l did google for an answer - way too many advertised results to buy S/W and no real answers except for the PC inspector.

No l didn't have these files backed up, could never get my thick head around backing up and trying the recovery when l had XP, so never tried again with W7, so please don't take the blow-torch to me for that oversight/stupidity.

Well l hope thats enough info- so please if you have any clues/answers, l would REALLY glad to hear them.

    Regards

    Hi,
I'm not sure how a Firefox profile would effect your desktop. Are you sure you only created a FF profile and not a Windows user profile? (Could you be looking at a whole new user desktop? Is your name the same on the Start Menu?)

That said, try Recuva which will look for recently deleted files (green light means the files are in good shape). Or Minitool Power Data Recovery (free for home users) which is similar to PC inspecor but might see your files.

Either program you want to copy the files to a different partition or a USB drive so as not to overwrite other files to be recovered.

Hi and thanks Sach2, l downloaded it but forgot to install it onto a usb drive (DOHx10) l ran it overnight recovered heaps of stuff but most of the PDF's wouldn't open so l'll try again tonight some photos didn't recover either.

Might have put that down to "Operator error".

    Regards
    Asprin
