I am preparing to do a reinstall on a window xp machine. There is some data I need to backup before I start. I have removed the sata drive from the (non-booting) machine, and am using a hard drive usb docking station to access the data via a working computer. The data I need to copy is located in the owner folder which I can not copy or open. I get the following message when I try to access the folder:

H:\documents and settings\Owner is not accessible.

    access is denied

Is there a way around this?

im not an expert on this particular subject - but if i recall correctly, booting into safe mode and then right clicking > and changing the user permissions for the folders on the extra hard drive will work, then all you have to do is boot normally - and copy em over as if they were normal old files.

eg: right clicking on the documents and settings folder
