Recovering Data From A Damaged Hard Drive...?

    Recovering data from a damaged hard drive...?

    What programs would you suggest for recovering data from an external hard drive.
    Apparantly only a portion is readable.
    What program would you suggest to recover as much possible?
    I am happy to do it from Windows 10 or Puppy linux.
    Would like it not to cost anything.

    The puppy is good but also from windows if it can be seen then the same copy and / or move could be done. It is an external, so can Window 10 see it and browse through it with Explorer? Make a "Saved" folder and put the stuff in it.
