i need help in my sd card i was copying some files when suddenly the lights turned off due to a black out, 1hour after the lights got back, i open my pc to continue copying my files when suddenly this error started to show..

"You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it

no matter how many times i try, the error keeps on showing and my pc can't read it like it used to,

is there anyway to fix this problem so my pc can read it?
    or to retrieve files inside?

    all those files are important!
    family photo's
    me and my girls photo's
    songs
    video's
and most important of all is my thesis is there!

pls help me get this to work!!
and can anyone suggest a good retrieval program thats free, i cannot buy it coz i have no credit card or means to pay on the internet...

this files are so important! pls healp:cry

First off, you were not copying files, you were moving them. Second, the best utilities for recovery off of the SD card are going to cost money. Any freebies will be Trialware, and will only do so many items, before the software stops working.

If you were actually copying files and not moving them, then the originals will still be on your hard drive. :)

For future reference, never move files, always Copy them so if something goes wrong while you are working, you still have all the original files.
Once you test and are positive that the files are safe, then you can move them off the computer.
Also for very important files, i store two different ways. I burn to a CD or DVD and store on a USB stick, external hard drive or some sort of card (sdhc).

Even better, keep a copy online in cloud storage, photos in your flickr or facebook account, documents in a cloud drive. And why would you use a SD card to store data on? Aren't they limited to 64gb right now at this point, until you get into Pen drives. And who still uses those these days.

There is no way to fix the lost files, unless you buy software for Windows, sorry. Here is one option http://www.wondershare.com/data-recovery/

Here is one option if it still works for Linux http://blog.mypapit.net/2007/10/how-to-recover-photo-files-from-sd-card-mmc-with-photorec.html

THNKS! for the wonder Share recovery!
although it only let me recover 100mb worth of files atleast i was able to recover the photos and OFCOURSE MY THESIS! OH THANK GOD!!:):)

[ow and plodr: the programs you gave me couldnt read my sd card coz like i said i didn't lose my files, it just couldnt read the sd card coz it gives me the error

"You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it"

its 2g sd card so i was only able to retrieve 100m of that 2g, would have been great if i was able to retrieve more than that or of someone here was able to help me fix the problem of why the sd card cant be readed normally.:cry

my sd card is a 2g memory,
i have already retrieve some of the files! sadly i was only able to retrieve 100mb worth of files.

    the error i get is

[You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it]

so does this mean i have to reformat my sd card to be able to use it normally again? or is there still a way to fix this problem without formatting my files inside?

if there is can anyone help me??

Recuva all the way, and if that fails you might give EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard a try.
