I have a 4GB SD Micro chip that now does not read when I plug it in. Tried multiple PCs and multiple SD to SD Micro Adapaters - with even one being a USB version. Is there any software available that could possibly help retrieve some of the files?

Can you put the card in a camera and then connect the camera to the PC via USB? Does the card work in a camera?

collinsl - no, I've tried connecting it to a camera as well. I've had mixed results when plugging it in to a laptop. Never have a gotten that the card is 4GB in size. One time I plugged it in, and it said 30.7MB.

Did find a post about a program called "recuva" - but the link appeared not to work.

Is this a MicroSD or a MicroSDHC card?

If you can boot to a live linux CD, sometimes linux is able to see things windows can not.
Depending on the distro, some will mount the sdhc card automatically while others require you to mount it.

The Recuva didn't work. Have to see if I can try the Linux thing. What happens to these chips that would make them unreadable? Is it due to heat, power shutdown?:cry

I have just read a 5 star review of MJM Free Photo Recovery in my favourite PC magazine, PCUtilities Issue 128, p37. This mag may still be on sale in the USA at your magazine store. It is the current one on sale in OZ, but # 129 is due out shortly.

www.mjmdatarecovery.co.uk and www.pc-utilties,co.uk/details53371.html are 2 links to this FREE program

    MG link is http://majorgeeks.com/Photo_Recovery_d5426.html :cool

I haven't used it so cannot comment on whether it work for you.

    Good luck,

    Bazza
